Mountain Biking Backpacks: Gregory Drift & Amasa

Supreme Ride Stability

GREGORY is launching a new range of mountain biking backpacks in Europe for the first time — with the usual innovative approach we’ve come to expect. The Shift RS (Shift Ride Stability) suspension system offers customisable load handling by shifting the hipbelt vertically and fixing it in place – depending on personal preferences and on the type of load. The men’s Drift and women’s Amasa models come in both a 10 litre and 14 litre version.

The Shift packs from GREGORY allow the position of the load and the length of the back to be adjusted precisely – and in an entirely new way. The hipbelt is moved higher or lower and fixed in place with a hook-and-loop strap. This is a new and unique adjustment system in the world of two wheels that offers a whole new level of customisability. It increases the stability of the load on the back, which is a top priority in mountain biking. Because a poorly fitting pack with a load that wobbles has a negative impact on your ride style and saps energy unnecessarily. GREGORY has used matrix ventilated EVA foam throughout the back panel, shoulder harness and hipbelt. The entire suspension system moulds itself to your body and is both lightweight and well ventilated.

A European first and included with the Drift and Amasa: the 3D Hydro Reservoir. The integrated drying hanger keeps the two walls of the reservoir apart so it can dry faster. The bite valve is magnetic for easy, one-handed attachment to the sternum strap. The SpeedClip allows snap-and-go reservoir installation. An extra-wide fill opening and a hook to hang it up by when drying are further user-friendly features.

GREGORY has used 210D Molecular CryptoRip Nylon fabric for the packs. This makes them lightweight and durable.

Further details of the Drift and Amasa include:

  • soft-lined front pocket for sunglasses or smartphone
  • separate zippered pocket with clip fastening for hydro reservoir
  • stretch mesh stuff pockets at the front and sides for quick access to drinks bottle or rain jacket
  • separate inner compartment with key clip
  • stowable trekking pole attachment
  • side compression straps
  • special webbing keepers for strap management
  • sunglasses QuickStow system on shoulder harness for quick access without taking the pack off
